784 // SLF IMG – The Waiting

Italian duo SLF IMG brings to life "Chimera", coming soon on Nubians Of Plutonia Records.

SLF IMG makes their debut on Milan’s Nubians Of Plutonia Records with “Chimera,” a title evoking the mythical hybrid creature, perfectly mirroring the EP’s fusion of analog warmth and futuristic sheen. This four-track EP skilfully blends nostalgic influences with contemporary electronic textures, creating a sonic tapestry where vintage Roland drum machines waltz with shimmering modern production. The Italian duo crafts a rich musical landscape, drawing from neon-lit 80s soundtracks, brooding Post-Punk basslines, and crystalline synth arpeggios while maintaining a fresh, forward-thinking appeal. Colombian producer FILMMAKER contributes a remix that warps these elements into darker territories, though the original tracks stand firmly on their own as cohesive visions of romanticized retro-futurism.

Premiered here, “The Waiting” is a sweeping Synthpop masterpiece dripping with melancholic grandeur – cascading Juno chords, throbbing Sequential Circuits bass pulses, and glassy Oberheim leads create a cathedral of synthetic emotion. The vocals, drenched in gothic reverb and aching with Depeche Mode’s spiritual intensity, glide over this luminous circuitry like shadows across a moonlit keyboard. Lush production details – whispered vocal delays, chorused guitar fragments, and analog hiss – immerse the listener in its wistful yet powerfully cinematic atmosphere. It’s a perfect showcase of SLF IMG’s alchemy: transforming vintage components into something timeless, where the artificial heartbeat of drum machines somehow feels profoundly human. The track’s layered complexity rewards repeat listens, revealing new textures – a haunting Mellotron flute here, a distorted SH-101 squelch there – like peeling layers from some beautiful electronic onion.

You can find (and buy) this and other music pearls on the Bandcamp page of the label.
