Skilled French producer Eloi lands on Cabriolet Recordings, from the respected network of theBasement Discos, with a discography that already cuts through Ltd, W/LBL, Lisztomania, Deeppa, DOBRO, and Blur Records, just to name a few. His brand-new four‑track parcel, “A Funk Story,” leans into proper House Music with a generous reach: Funk provides the spine, while Jazz, Soul, Disco, and Afro textures drift in and out of the frame. No single mood dominates; instead, the EP moves with the ease of a crate‑digger who knows exactly where to look, resulting in a confident delivery on a label that appreciates range.
Premiered here, “Kilimandjaro” closes the set as a nod to Eko’s 1977 “Kilimandjaro My Home,” though Eloi never treats the source as a museum piece. Guitar riffs carry the melody with a warm, unhurried strut, while percussive elements skip and shuffle beneath like a quiet conversation between rhythm sections. The vocals float above it all – not front and centre, but comfortably wrapped in the arrangement’s fabric. House Music’s pulse keeps everything grounded, preventing the track from drifting into pure tribute territory. A closing piece that sends the listener back to the start, ready to hear the whole EP again. Kudos!
