Stuttgart-based producer Sample Samurai (cool artist name, by the way) brings to life “Dopamine Glitch,” a masterfully crafted three-track EP that locks into a steady, head-nodding pulse, coming soon on the always-reliable German label Dance Petrol Records. Breakbeat, Deep House, and Progressive House set the tone of the parcel, devoted to showcasing Samurai’s influences and capabilities without a single wasted moment.
Premiered here, “Citric Acid,” in collaboration with German DJ Ante Lucem, brings the soirée to the progressive side of the force. A beautiful and warm pad partnered with a throbbing-but-smooth synth lead introduces the theme. The calm is abruptly but properly interrupted by the kick-and-bass kick-ass combo, a gentle reminder that this is a dance-floor entity, not a lullaby. The bass needs a few more words about, mind you: bouncing, exciting, rhythmic – and impossible to ignore –, it brings movement to the track’s deep-trance-like mood, another hint that we are dealing with a peak-time beast here. A pinch of acid, extra synth layers… and voilà… the whole thing just works. No fuss, no fake drama. Just a groove that lands right where it should.
You can find (and buy) this and other music pearls on the Beatport page of the label.
