Compilations are always a tough challenge. They can’t be a mere pile of tracks thrown together without direction or logic. Multi-genre, yes – but with a backbone that holds the whole thing together. That said, “Krab Core” is a VA that tickles all the boxes of a job well done. The eighteen-cut parcel is a joint effort from the French projects La Grande Gudule, Armen Crew, and Garage 83-C, and will be a name-your-price release, making it accessible to anyone with an ear for something fresh. For the most dedicated collectors, a super-limited CD edition will also be available for pre-order – a nice touch for those who prefer their music in physical form.

Premiered here, DJ 8.6’s “Gudule Gonk” takes its title from a blend of the La Grande Gudule collective’s name and “gonk,” a term tied to underground rave and breakbeat aesthetics – a playful nod to the organisers and the scene behind the release. The theme is a mission‑impossible task to pigeonhole. Based on a complex breakbeat base, synths bubble and warp, never quite settling into a straight line, while cosmic FX elements season the track with a layer of unpredictable, weightless colour. The whole thing moves with a restless, hypnotic energy, always shifting, never quite anchored – a proper slice of (un)contained chaos if you like your beats with a side of the unexpected.
