936 // Andy Ash – Star

Andy Ash and Sound Du Jour team up again for another starry release!

Liverpool-based DJ, producer, and visual artist Andy Ash has been quietly building an impressively varied catalogue for well over a decade, moving between House, Disco, Electro, and Techno without settling into one particular formula. His productions have found homes on respected labels including Dessous, Quintessentials, Stilove4music, On The Prowl, and Delusions of Grandeur, with releases such as “Bottleneck”, “Unconscious Therapy”, and “Tiawo” offering different glimpses into his approach. More recently, 2026 has already brought the “When The Sunlight Comes” EP on Departure Lounge, before Ash returns to Sound Du Jour with “Star”, a two-track parcel completed by “Jericho Theme”. The pairing makes for an interesting contrast, with the title cut leaning towards Indie Dance and its companion heading into Electro territory.

Premiered here, the title track wastes little time getting down to business, combining a firm four-to-the-floor foundation with crisp percussion, rubbery bass, and an acid gait that gives the groove an extra twist. There’s a slightly cheeky quality to the way the elements interact, giving the track plenty of character without overcomplicating the arrangement. Ash keeps the production tight, introducing small shifts and textural details that keep things moving while preserving its focus. The result has enough grit to work in a club setting, yet its melodic touches give it a lighter side that makes repeated listens particularly rewarding. A compact, confident piece, “Star” finds Andy Ash taking familiar ingredients and giving them a personality of their own.

You can find (and buy) this and other music pearls on the Bandcamp page of the label.
