Infame Gonza is Gonzalo Moreira, a skilled Uruguayan producer who uses a blend of House, Techno, and Acid with rhythms from across Latin America as the basis for his sonority. After a solid debut on U’re Guay, he now makes his first appearance on the mighty Mexican imprint Kyma Komplex with “Memoria Del Ritmo,” an originals-only release built around the idea that the body remembers rhythm long before the mind does. The EP leans into breaks, Latin percussion, and an electro sensibility, keeping the focus on movement at every turn. It’s aggressive and intense when it needs to be, but there’s a thoughtfulness underneath, something that only an artist with a great sensibility for what a dance floor really means could come up with.
Premiered here, the title track delivers its magic mainly through a beautiful Miami-Bass-infected base without the explicit, call-and-response party chants and booty-centric hooks that usually come with the territory. What’s left is leaner and more focused – the genre’s core, rebuilt with precision. Percussion allied with sharp Electro and House accents give it texture, while arpeggiated lines weave through the arrangement. The energy is immediate, favouring impact over perfection. A melancholic thread runs through it too, a feeling that sits somewhere between losing yourself and remembering where you’ve been. A track made for the floor, but one that carries something with it – a sense that rhythm is a form of memory, and the best nights are the ones you can still feel long after they end.
You can find (and buy) this and other music pearls on the Beatport page of the label.
