943 // Mao Fonnegra – Point Black

Espacio Cielo turns 100, and Mao Fonnegra is bringing the cake.

In 2020, Espacio Cielo started its journey with “Neto,” a three-original parcel from the very own label big cheese, Parissior. Since then, the Spanish outlet has become one of the most prominent hubs for the finest Indie Dance & Dark Disco available, featuring the creme de la creme of the synth-driven side of the force delivered by acclaimed artists as well as brand-new faces in search of their place under the sun. If the material is good, fear not, little cockatoo, master Parissior will make it happen – that’s the outlet’s successful policy.

For its 100th release, Espacio welcomes back Mao Fonnegra, and the Colombian producer spared no effort to come up with a spot-on package for the special landmark. With none other than Franz Scala and Neurotiker on the remix duties, the “Point Black” EP comes wrapped in a proper darkness-meets-groove blanket.

Premiered here, the title track wastes no time establishing its intentions. “Point Black” is built around a low-slung groove that shifts and clicks beneath a layer of murky synth work. The atmosphere is heavy, almost humid, like a basement at 3am with the lights down and the system turned up. Mao Fonnegra keeps the arrangement lean, letting tension do the heavy lifting rather than piling on elements. The vocals add another layer of pressure, threading through the theme without ever taking over. The EP is exactly the kind of statement a hundredth release deserves. Kudos!

You can find (and buy) this and other music pearls on the Beatport page of the label.
