393 // Mad Slow – Detroit (Khafuri Remix)

Another solid release on Kyma Komplex, this time by Mad Slow. We reviewed Khafuri's remix. Check it out!

“Dystopia”, as defined in the Cambridge Dictionary, is “a very bad or unfair society in which there is a lot of suffering, especially an imaginary society in the future, after something terrible has happened; a description of such a society”. Translate the term into Spanish and you have the name of Mad Slow’s debut endeavour on Kyma Komplex, Veltrán’s brand-new and promising imprint.

Hailing from Oaxaca, Mexico, OJ Ricci aka Mad Slow is another representative of the present & future Latino generation of good quality underground electronic music. His previous works on Veneno, Controlla, Logia, and Bonkers have paved the way to his boldest release so far: “Distopía” comes with three outstanding originals and five well-constructed remixes made with love an interesting selection of new talents: So Piuzzi, Bluecommand, Paltamango, Lucas Novaes, and Khafuri. Premiered here, the latter’s contribution.

If the original is a Techno-meets-Synthwave video-game-inspired theme, Khafuri’s interpretation presents a different attitude. Faster and punchier, the remix is definitely intended to be used in a more peak-time moment. “A danceable delight, (…) quite explosive version of ‘Detroit’”, according to the PR text of the EP.

You can find (and buy) this and other music pearls on the Bandcamp page of the label.
