224 // Komodo – Thunder

Indonesian artist Komodo lands on MM Discos with an interesting and well-constructed EP.

Skilled Jakartan DJ and producer Komodo lands for the first time on the solid Berlin/Barcelona-based label MM Discos. With previous releases on acclaimed imprints such as Cocktail d’Amore Music and Not An Animal, he has been also devoted to helping the Indonesian underground “Disco-Not-Disco” scene sharing the work of promising local artists on his own platform, Akamady Records.

In his “Thunder” EP, Komodo joined forces with his protégé Saturn, who delivered a vibrant and Shamanic remix of the title track. Both originals and the remix showcase the sonority of the Indonesian talents, who built their work on rich percussive elements and upbeat synth layers, providing an EP with lots of groove and high danceability.

The theme we chose to review/premiere, “Thunder”, brings Komodo making (good) use of his Indie Dance/Nu Disco influences, combining upbeat guitar-like riffs with trippy pads and melodic synth leads. The outcome is a 122-BPM beauty, ready to be a permanent track in your summer gigs, despite the rain alarm title.

You can find (and buy) this and other music pearls on the Bandcamp page of the label.
