“Oi, mate, where you from? Sorted, mate, sorted! We loved, we danced, we saw the sun coming up over a green field, mud on our shoes, making the best friends of our life… “
Taken from the label’s PR text, it is not clear if the situation above really happened. At the same time, it is utterly possible it happened countless times to Mark Bailey aka MAN2.0 (SXDNS081) during his glorious rave days. Oh, boy! We miss these days! The fun was unreal, the connections were unreal, the atmosphere was unreal! Was it a dream? Were the raves in the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s just a dream? Hallucinations, perhaps? No, they happened! We were there, and they were EPIC!
MAN2.0 returns to When Disco Goes Wrong to capture the feeling of those prototype years with perfection through the seminal breakbeat belter “Embryonic Rave Thing”. The EP also brings two old-timer ravers superbly dealing with the remix duties, Mindbender and Högt I Tak (SXDNS179), the label owners, by the way.
The original, premiered here, is very different from Mark’s recent previous works. He put the darkness and the acidity aside for a while and, as if remembering the good ol’ times, delivered a more emotive and trippier breakbeat theme topped with mellow synth layers and beautiful ethereal vocals. Kudos!
You can find (and buy) this and other music pearls on the Bandcamp page of the label.
