Asha Puthli is a singer-songwriter, producer, and actress born on February 4, 1945, and raised in Bombay, India. With works published on EMI, CBS/Sony, and RCA, her rich sonority covers Blues, Pop, Rock, Soul, Funk, Disco, and Techno and has achieved recognition not only in the United States but also in Europe.
This incredible release, coming soon on vinyl and digital formats on Los Angeles-based Naya Beat Records, is an actual tribute to Asha’s incredible legacy: “Disco Mystic – Select Remixes Volume 1” comes with six must-have versions made with love by a true dream team of Disco/Nu Disco authorities: Yuksek, Maurice Fulton, Kraak & Smaak, Turbotito & Ragz, Psychemagik and Jitwam delivered new brightness to “I Am Song (Sing Me)”, “Space Talk”, “Lies”, “One Night Affair”, “Right Down Here”, and “I’m Gonna Dance”, respectively.
Premiered here, Kraak & Smaak’s brilliant take on Asha’s 1973’s “Lies” honours the original by keeping almost all the main elements – the crying guitar solo, for instance, had to be taken away but for a good reason: The acclaimed Dutch trio aimed at the stars for their remix and decided to deliver a more cosmic interpretation. It’s undoubtedly an outcome that will please not only the fans of this visionary artist but also the ones who will get familiar with her outstanding work from now on.
You can find (and buy) this and other music pearls on the Bandcamp page of the label.
