662 // Erika Mena – Taika

For the Techno Heads out there: Erika Mena lands on Vigor Trax with a fangy blood-thirsty EP.

Let’s go Techno, shall we? The ever-evolving “papa” genre shows no signs of decline and keeps enchanting crowds all over the world with its flawless formula of emphasizing the role of rhythm over other musical aspects. Seasoned artists and fresh faces keep the fire burning by delivering their respective views of how Techno must sound, hence maintaining the freshness of the beloved four-to-four style.

Mexico City-based producer Erika Mena, for instance, found her way to Techno heaven after strolling through Dark Wave, Post-Punk, EBM, and Industrial pastures nearly two decades ago. Her outstanding sonority is spiced up with the addition of Latin references to her powerful and meaningful sets, a concoction that ends up spilling into her productions as well.

For her debut on the rising and shining Mexican label Vigor Trax, Erika came up with four peak-time-only beats filled with stamina and heart. Premiered here, “Taika” lives up to its definition: “A spell, charm, set of words to invoke magical effect” – in this case, a set of beats to invoke magical effect. Its spell delivers a mesmerising aura triggered by minimalistic synth stabs and feverish percussive elements.

You can find (and buy) this and other music pearls on the Bandcamp page of the label.
