According to Wikipedia, Gayo refers to “an endangered Austronesian language spoken by some 275,000 people in the mountainous region of the Indonesian province Aceh on the Northern tip of the island of Sumatra.”
It is also the name of a parcel from the freshest batch of Blutch’s “Escaped Songs” series: “One song every two weeks for one year” (from November 1, 2023, to November 6, 2024, to be more precise)”. The grand finale of the skilled French artist’s bold project comes full of experimentation and ingenious production moves, resulting in an emotion-filled and thrilling collection of gems to be enjoyed either sweating on a packed dance floor or swinging in a hammock during a lazy afternoon after lunch.
Premiered here, the beautiful “Gayo” combines a trippy progressive aura with an alluring Balearic bearing. Deep vocal hooks and groovy marimba-like percussive overlays trigger a soothing and yet energizing atmosphere.
You can find (and buy) this and other music pearls on the Bandcamp page of the artist.
