Nostalgia is defined as “a sentimental longing or wistful affection for a period or place in the past, typically with happy personal associations”, this is exactly what Fen Doi’s self-titled debut EP offers through its four themes: A generous portion of nostalgia triggered by the absurd amount of 80s’ Synthwave-and-Retrowave-inspired vibes spread all over the release.

Fen Doi is Neil Lauper, a Zurich-based producer and drummer devoted to exploring different shades of music. His approach to producing is shaped by his natural feel for rhythm and groove with a special fascination for somewhat pop-oriented melodies and the raw emotions they can trigger. In “Fen Doi” EP, you will have contact with all his music background and history translated into four interesting and well-crafted originals.

“Your Universe”, the track we were solicited to premiere, is a catchy and emotional retro-as-hell heater with emotional lyrics – that starts with a very considerate verse: “I want to know how you feel” – followed by a beautiful and melodic arpeggiated synth layer. The trippy pads and leads are also highlights worth to be mentioned. Great independent release here, peeps!
