Curated by respected Swedish producers Mårten Attling and Janne Berglund, respectively and better known as Mindbender and Högt I Tak (SXDNS179), the young but promising imprint When Disco Goes Wrong sees its very first compilation come to light. Featuring, yes, Swedish artists only, the volume 1 brings Daniel Savio, Pufferfisk, The Machine Soul, and Envelope Follower, some of the favourite local heroes of the label honchos.

The Italo/synth/electronica-duo Pufferfisk consists of Anna Gavanas and Peter Eriksson. Influenced by synth pioneers Laserdance, Jean Michael Jarre, and Fancy, the project was created in 2011 and has delivered three releases so far: The EP “Bolero” (2016), the album “Retrofututismo” (2017), and the EP “We are Pufferfisk” (2020).

Anna & Peter make their debut on When Disco Goes Wrong with “El Rincon Del Pollo”, a caliente and spicy Italo Disco-infused piece that showcases the true sonority of the duo. Trippy synth layers, smooth cosmic pads, and a sober acid coat were competently brought together to make up one of the highlights of the Scandinavian compilation.
