493 // PAOW – Shorebreak

The official debut release of the French project Petite Bêtise is coming H-O-T! PAOW's cut was the chosen one for our review.

Meet Petite Bêtise, a Paris-based collective and party makers who now bring to life their very first compilation. For the occasion, TOUJOURS LA, EUTROP, Stazzia, and PAOW, four young and skilled French producers, were invited to contribute by delivering four proper House Music cuts.

Despite the VA being considered the official launch of the new branch of the project, the seed was planted in 2022, when the lads released a solidarity vinyl record devoted to raising funds for 111 des Arts, a Lille-based non-profit entity that puts art and culture at the service of financing research against pediatric cancer, in particular by organizing vernissages. €1.100 were donated to the institution, by the way. “It was a very formative experience for us to manage an artistic project. We were able to learn a lot from it and it made us want to continue”, said Baptiste and Thibault, the curators of the imprint.

Fast forward to the present, and we have now the aforementioned VA. Its closing track comes from the clever mind of the aspiring PAOW, a young House Music lover hailing from Paris whose free downloads on SoundCloud are true signs that great things are coming to his music career if he keeps delivering such high-quality material. “Shorebreak” – and its 90s vibes – comes loaded with the right amount of acid combined with smooth synth riffs, and melodic vocal hooks. A proper conclusion for a great compilation.

You can find (and buy) this and other music pearls on the Bandcamp page of the label.
