Adrian Maxwell Sherwood needs no introduction amid the Dub scene. The reason: his career intertwines with the history and evolution of the style he helped make popular through his innovative and distinctive production approach based on the application of dub effects and mixing techniques to other forms of dance music. His extensive work alongside a variety of Reggae artists plus solid remixes for Coldcut, Depeche Mode, Primal Scream, and Sinéad O’Connor, just to name a few, turned Adrian into one of the most acclaimed specialists of the genre.
One of his most recent collaborations, “Live Mix” with the Turin-based quartet FIRE, was released in January last year both in digital and vinyl formats on Salgari Records and brought the squad flirting wildly with “a sonic clash between Electronica, Jazz, and Dub.” Our favourite from the EP, “Proton Swap”, is pure bliss!
The success of the assembly made the label come up with the idea of gathering a bunch of remixes to keep the FIRE burning. The result is a collection of sixteen reworks split into two volumes of eight tracks each. “Kaleidoscopic viewpoints from heterogeneous sound worlds that further expand the horizon of a record that is already a journey itself.”
Premiered here, Lollino’s contribution for the occasion features “Maasai Smiles” now dressed for the peak time. The dub elements are virtually gone, but the Jazzy gait and upbeat aura of the original are still there, culminating in one of the most interesting versions of the pack.
You can find (and buy) this and other music pearls on the Bandcamp page of the label.
