“Vade retro” (Latin for “step back” or “go back”) is an exclamation meaning “get away” or “back off.” It is most commonly used as a humorous, dramatic expression to reject an undesirable, tempting, or absurd proposition, or to ward off bad luck. It is also the name of the brand-new release from Lithuanian maestro Aurum Miles, coming soon on his very own Quixotical Records. In it, two outstanding originals – one of them brought to you in three different versions – and three ace remixes made with love by Poulper & Stylic, Pyrame, and TOTS. Expect Indie Dance, Dark Disco, Dark Wave, and more retro-infused flavours.
Premiered here, “I See You” finds the man of the hour exploring his Synthpop influences through a Gary Numan‑esque motif, layering cold, mechanistic textures with a brooding, atmospheric vocal delivery. The track moves with a measured, almost robotic gait, yet there’s something undeniably human lurking beneath the surface – a tension between the machine and the man behind it. Aurum pulls threads from the past into something alive and contemporary, rather than simply imitating. Sharp synth lines cut through the arrangement like signals from a distant tower, while the vocal sits somewhere between a whisper and a command. The result is a piece that pulls you in without ever raising its voice. A proper nod to the masters, but with enough of his own fingerprint to make it clear: this is Mr Miles’s world, and we’re just visiting.
You can find (and buy) this and other music pearls on the Bandcamp page of the label.
Follow Aurum Miles and Quixotical, peeps!
