Sydney has a new label! Air Signs Music started its activities in November last year and since then has been delivering high-quality and insightful underground gems filled with cosmic vibes. After featuring Tunnels Signs and Funboys (SXDNS227) for its first two episodes, the outlet now opens its doors for local heroine Reenie, a rising & shining DJ, producer, percussionist, and radio host – plus: she is also a vinyl retailer at The Record Store Sydney – whose debut release along with Tunnel Signs on Motorik a few months ago gave us the opportunity of taking a small peek into her influences and capabilities.
Flying solo this time, her “Space Cadet” EP is a true zero-gravity experience wrapped in melodic synths, groovy percussive elements, ethereal leads, and a delicious Balearic bearing. It’s a mix of Baldelli, Jarre, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, Cerrone… You already know where we are going, right? So, let’s stop before the list gets too long. These are some of the sources – direct and indirect – the young producer might have scarfed down and blended with modern elements to come up with her interesting sonority – something that only a true music lover could conceive.
Premiered here, “Transmission From Paul” closes the EP with a “what’s next?” feeling and leaves us craving for more stuff from Reenie. Its deep, emotional, and mesmerizing aura triggered by the bouncing bassline, dreamlike arpeggios, and fitting speech-like vocals could not have resulted in a better finale. Kudos!
