It’s that time of the year again: Labels and artists are delivering their last parcels, filled with darkness-meets-groovy delicacies for our delight. Paisley Dark, for instance, presents “Shimmering Lights”, a superb single by Ben Hunt adorned with a super pack of remixes. On board: Mindbender (BANDCAMP003), Cosmikuro, A Space Age Freak Out (SXDNS123), Rude Audio, Keith Forrester, and Airsine came up with outstanding interpretations, resulting in a kaleidoscopical collection of soundscapes.

About the original, the Brighton-based DJ, producer, AND filmmaker stated he “aimed to make an old-school electronic track in the style of The Chemical Brothers and Underworld, but with some current production techniques.” And he succeeded! Listening to “Shimmering Lights” triggers happy memories from the time the aforementioned references were the kings of the dance floor. That’s something around twenty-five years ago we are talking about.

Premiered here, Keith Forrester’s revision manages to take the theme to the acid realm without losing the essence of Ben’s concoction. The Mancunian artist might have added a little bit more Chemical Brothers to the recipe, though, by pouring some extra distorted synth leads and lively FXs, which brought more clout to the affair. Hey, drive boy, we liked it!
